Owsley Brown Presents

MUSIC MAKES A CITY NOW
Owsley Brown Presents (OBP) is an independent motion picture production company that produces original contemporary media works. Their documentary Music Makes a City chronicles one of the most ambitious new work commissions by an American orchestra in history. It aired nationally on PBS in 2014.
Inspired by the full-length film, OBP wanted to find a way to extend their portrait of the Louisville Orchestra. They wanted to connect that distinguished history with the arrival of Teddy Abrams, a young musical visionary tasked with leading the group into the future.
From the beginning, we recognized that developing this series would call for continually evolving production goals. Each piece that we produced would inform the next episodes theme, tone, and character development. We immersed ourselves in Teddy’s world, allowing him to become as much a contributor to the creative process as a character in the series.
“With Teddy, the process could change on a dime. He’d hear something the day before and all of a sudden the project was being driven in a different direction. For us, that’s just part of following the story.”
Josh Mauser, Videographer/Photographer
EPISODE 1 / TEDDY MOVES TO LOUISVILLE
EPISODE 4 / CARMINA BURANA IN LOUISVILLE
The outcome is a 12-episode series that feels more like a film distributed online in sections. The Music Makes A City Now episodes aired nationally on PBS Arts.
