Senior Graphic Designer

We are adding a Senior Graphic Designer to our team. This is a full-time position with competitive pay and benefits.
What does a Senior Graphic Designer do?
As a Senior Graphic Designer, you will work within our Design Department to both independently and collaboratively support the vision of the Design Director and Creative Directors. You will work in partnership with team members from all departments to execute complex projects. Our Designers execute design processes and creative ideas based on client needs. They work to thoroughly understand and demonstrate concept ideation, brand design, and design strategy. They have a working understanding of storytelling in relation to design. 

Our Senior Graphic Designers exhibit a high level of curiosity to explore and develop the varied approaches of design and grow in knowledge and skills. They should have a demonstrated track record of generating original ideas, create impressive designs, and have a keen eye for detail. Curiosity, self-motivation, and a strong understanding of graphic design theory and digital tools are among some of the important skills we are looking for. 

Our work at KERTIS is a balance of thinking & doing. Our creative work is rooted in strategy and executed in-house. Our primary media are documentary & campaign-style video, photography, and design. We do a significant amount of strategic campaign work including brand concepting development. The Design team supports all of these efforts as well as stewards the KERTIS brand. 

Day to Day
A Senior Graphic Designer's day will primarily consist of problem-solving, idea development, designing, and guiding and supporting teams in complex projects. They will have a clear vision and understanding of their daily tasks and project milestones. The Design Director will set weekly meetings with the team and all relevant meetings with departments in relation to projects. All design work may be reviewed by the Design Director, at multiple stages, in relation to specific projects. 
Day to Day Breakdown
– Manage design projects from conception to delivery
– Facilitate design process to support strategy, digital media (video, photo, other)
– Work collaboratively with the design team on all projects
– Communicate directly with clients, as needed, on design projects
– Pitch creative concepts internally and externally, as needed
– Solve design problems for clients, as well as in-house teams
– Assist in the design of internal material including proposals, presentations, meeting assets, etc.
– Participate in weekly, monthly department meetings
– Mentor designers and design interns, as needed
– Support and help guide the Design Dept to achieve quality assurance on all projects
- Maintain brand consistency throughout all our projects 
- Actively participate in the design community in Louisville and beyond
Who You Are
– 5-7 years professional experience in the Graphic Design field and/or related creative field (preferred but not required if skill/talent are a fit)
- Bachelor's Degree in Graphic / Visual / Print design, or related field
- Strong understanding of design theory, color theory, typography, and design concepts/industry standards
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (any knowledge of After Effects of basic animation capabilities is a bonus)
- Web and digital experience (not a requirement, but a plus!)

– Flexibility to adjust to unknowns or last-minute situations
– Solid writing and research skills
– Interest in historical and current trends in storytelling/marketing/advertising/design
– Community & globally minded
